Story

When we were approached by Mount Vernon Presbyterian School about having their preschoolers paint a piano, we never could have guessed how delightful the final result would be -- yes, PRESCHOOLERS!

First, the upper school students submitted their concepts to a group of Kindergarteners who are passionate about art. The Kindergarten students narrowed the renderings to four choices, and then preschoolers voted for their favorite.

Guided by Kelly Dickson's winning design and a group of patient upper school classmates, the preschoolers painted this charming new addition to the Play Me Again Pianos portfolio.  You just can't help but feel happy looking at it, so we named the piano just that -- Happy.

Student involvement didn't end with the art on the piano because, if at all possible, they wanted to keep the piano nearby.  They were tasked with finding a selection of sheltered publicly accessible locations.  The spot outside the Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, where Happy now sits, was one of their suggestions.  So they needed the to church to be on board with the idea.  Luckily, interim pastor Susan Haynes was all in.

“I’m truly excited to be part of this project with Play Me Again Pianos, said Haynes.  “Now, we have a new way to connect our community members, and I look forward to seeing kids, families and church members gathering around the piano and hearing music play outside of our church.”

And so do we!
